Doctoral Colloquium at Leuven University on “The EU as a Global Actor”

You are kindly invited to take part in the Doctoral Colloquium on “The EU as a Global Actor” to be held on 8 May 2015. The Department of European and International Law, Leuven International and European Studies (LINES) and the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies, in cooperation with the Universities of Antwerp and Ghent, will hold a doctoral colloquium, bringing together PhD researchers in law and political science, to present their research on the EU’s role as a global actor.

Establishing the EU as a more visible, more effective and strong global actor was one the key objectives of the Treaty of Lisbon, which has now been into force for five years. This has led the EU to take initiatives in many different areas of international law and relations. The area of EU external relations has therefore increasingly been the subject of research in law and political science. This colloquium aims to encompass different topics in this wide area of research.

Doctoral researchers in law and political science are invited to present their research in a conference style format. The event is aimed to provide researchers with the opportunity to present their work among colleagues from different departments who are working on issues related to the EU’s role as a global actor. Guests from the European institutions and from academia will be invited to be discussants on the panels. Researchers enrolled in the doctoral programme at the Law Faculty may count a presentation (or acting as a discussant) towards their doctoral training programme.

Researchers who are interested in participating are invited to contact jed.odermatt@ggs.kuleuven.be by 9 February with a short summary of their research and proposed presentation topic (500 words), the name of their promotor and whether they would like to validate the presentation as a doctoral seminar. Participants will be contacted soon after with details of the programme.
