In accordance with ESIL’s by-laws, the Interest Group on The EU as a Global Actor is electing two new members of their Coordinating Committee (CC).
As discussed at the IG meeting in Oslo in September 2015, elections will be held to replace two of the current conveners (Irene Blazquez and Marise Cremona) and the other two conveners will continue for a further two years (Piet Eeckhout and Anne Thies). The following rules regarding the eligibility of candidates and the running of the election were agreed at that meeting:
- All candidates need to (a) have been member of the IG for at least 2 years, and (b) have the support of three IG members to present their candidacy
- Elections will be held every two years for two of the four conveners (to allow continuity of the IG) for a four-year term
- There is no limit to re-election of conveners
- Each IG member has the number of votes equivalent to the number of convener positions to be filled – in this case, two.
The CC is the general administrative body of the Interest Group (IG), responsible for running its day-to-day business and organising the group’s activities (workshops, seminars, conferences, publications and so on). Members of the CC are elected for four years and may be re-elected.
All IG members interested in serving on the CC are hereby invited to submit their candidacy to firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday 17 March 2016 (11.00 CET). Candidates are asked to include a short self-description (no more than 200 words), which includes their current institutional affiliation, plus a brief outline of their ideas about future plans for the IG.
After the deadline, if the number of candidates equals the number of slots, no elections will be held. If there are more candidates than slots, online voting will be conducted: the ESIL Secretariat will send out an email with the names and self-descriptions of all candidates, and members will be asked to cast their vote before the established deadline. All IG members are encouraged to vote. Members may vote for a maximum of two candidates. The two candidates with the highest vote count will be considered elected to the CC. All IG members will be informed of the result of the elections.
We would like to remind you that in order to submit a candidacy, vote, and serve on the CC, your ESIL membership must be up to date, i.e. you must have paid your 2016 membership fee. In addition, candidates need to (a) have been members of the Interest Group for at least two years (i.e. in 2014 and 2015) and (b) have the support of three IG members.
Further details about IG governance can be found in the Policy Guidance and By-laws documents, available on the ESIL website.
